Mumbai weather today: IMD forecasts light rain, thundershowers

Mumbai is likely to witness partly cloudy skies with light rain and thundershowers on Thursday, according to the IMD. The BMC has advised residents to remain cautious during high tide, while the city`s seven lakes have recorded a further decline in water stock to 49.65 per cent

Mumbai is expected to witness partly cloudy skies with the possibility of light rain or thundershowers in the city and suburbs on Thursday, according to the India Meteorological Department (IMD).

IMD has further predicted intermittent light rainfall across Mumbai and its suburban regions, while residents have been advised to remain cautious during high-tide periods.

As per IMD, the maximum temperature in Mumbai is likely to hover around 32.7 degrees Celsius, while the minimum temperature is expected to settle at around 26 degrees Celsius, indicating warm and humid conditions across the city and suburbs.

Mumbai continues to see low rainfall in last 24 hours

The Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC) said the average rainfall recorded between 8 am on July 15 and 8 am on July 16 remained low across the city. The island city received 0.37 mm of rainfall, while the eastern suburbs recorded 6.27 mm and the western suburbs received 3.76 mm during the 24-hour period.

High-tide timings

The BMC has also issued the following tide timings for Friday, July 17:

Civic authorities have advised residents, especially those living in low-lying and coastal areas, to stay updated on weather and tide advisories while planning outdoor activities.

Although widespread heavy rainfall is not expected, brief spells of rain and isolated thunderstorms may occur in parts of Mumbai and its suburbs throughout the day.

Mumbai lake levels slips to 49.65 per cent

Mumbai's seven lakes supplying water to the city have witnessed a further decline in their combined water stock, dropping by 0.08 percentage points to 49.65 per cent of their total useful live storage capacity, according to the Hydraulic Engineer's Department, Master Control Centre (Bhandup Complex) report recorded at 6 am on Thursday, July 16.

The city's reservoirs currently hold 7,18,582 million litres (ML) of water against their total useful storage capacity of 14,47,363 ML.

The water stock remains significantly lower compared to the previous year. On the same date in 2025, Mumbai's seven lakes had recorded 80.32 per cent of their useful live storage capacity, while in 2024, the stock stood at 36.86 per cent.
