Mumbai traffic update: Overturned dumper, BEST bus breakdowns disrupt morning peak-hour commute

Mumbai's morning commute was hit by traffic disruptions at several key stretches on Monday, October 5, with overturned dumpers and BEST bus breakdowns slowing vehicular movement during the peak travel hours.

With thousands of office-goers, school and college students and other commuters taking to the roads during the morning rush, traffic was affected across parts of the city and suburbs.

Overturned dumper shuts Magathane flyover

A truck carrying soil overturned on the Magathane flyover near Metro Wholesale Mall in Borivali East at around 6.25 am, causing congestion in the area.

No injuries were reported in the incident so far. Mumbai Police, Traffic Police, Fire Brigade personnel and BMC officials reached the spot to manage the situation and facilitate the removal of the overturned vehicle.

The truck overturned on the flyover, with soil scattered across the carriageway, slowing traffic movement. Oil also spilled from the vehicle onto the third lane, prompting authorities to restrict traffic movement to two lanes.

In the latest update, Mumbaikars have been advised to avoid the route towards Thakur Village and Mira Road. The bridge has been temporarily closed as recovery operations continue.

Commuters travelling through the stretch should expect delays of at least 40 minutes, while the service road is also heavily congested.

Ghatkopar bridge traffic cleared after dumper catches fire

In another incident, the Mumbai Traffic Police reported slow traffic movement at 7.40 am on the Ghatkopar Bridge (Vikhroli), northbound, after a dumper overturned and caught fire.

The incident affected traffic movement during the morning rush. However, in its latest update, the Mumbai Traffic Police said traffic movement on the stretch had been cleared.

BEST bus breakdown slows traffic on JVLR Bridge

Traffic movement is slow on the JVLR Bridge near Pratap Nagar Signal in MIDC, northbound, following a BEST bus breakdown, Mumbai Traffic Police reported.

Meanwhile, traffic movement was reported to be slow near Sai Palace Hotel in the MIDC area, southbound, following a BEST bus breakdown, according to the Mumbai Traffic Police.

The traffic alert was issued at around 10.20 am as commuters continued to navigate the morning rush.

BEST bus breakdown affects Powai-IIT stretch

Traffic movement was also slow at the Powai IIT Main Gate towards Sakinaka, southbound, following another BEST bus breakdown, the Mumbai Traffic Police reported.

Commuters travelling through the stretch have been advised to factor in additional travel time as traffic movement remains affected.
