A problematic stretch on SV Road at the busy Bandra junction in Mumbai has once again given way following which the metal sheets are back at the spot that mid-day had earlier highlighted.

Traffic disruptions were being reportedly faced by motorists in the area close to the well-known Lucky Restaurant junction.

The same spot had earlier been flagged by local reports late last year, raising concerns over the quality and durability of temporary repairs.

Metal plates back

The damaged section, which had been covered with metal plates, reportedly developed damages again. These plates were being used as a temporary road surface, but have now failed, creating an unsafe situation for motorists.

A social media user highlighted the issue on X, stating that the road had been blocked due to the collapse and warning of potential heavy congestion if not fixed quickly.

Cops on alert

Traffic police have been on alert at the affected spot to prevent any accident along the route that also leads towards the crowded Bandra Railway station and is close to the highway.

The repeated collapse has raised serious safety concerns among residents and commuters. Many are calling for a permanent solution instead of temporary fixes like metal sheets.

Impact

In December, after a series of reports on the risky metal sheets at the spot, the skid trap opposite Lucky Restaurant in Bandra West, where SV Road meets GR Varasakar Road, was removed. Traffic cops in the area had previously told mid-day that on average, three accidents were taking place daily due to the metal lid, which was placed to cover an underground water chamber plagued by multiple leakage issues. Following extensive coverage by mid-day that brought the issue to the notice of authorities, the civic body had taken action and removed the metal lid.
