Traffic movement was affected at Juhu Circle in Andheri (West), Mumbai, on Thursday after a crane used for Mumbai Metro work broke down, leading to a traffic backlog of around 1.5 km, sources said.

According to the Mumbai Traffic Police, motorists have been advised to avoid the route towards Juhu Circle from the DN Nagar side until the obstruction is cleared.

To manage the situation, traffic officials, along with police personnel, traffic wardens and construction traffic guards, were deployed at the site to regulate vehicular movement.

The Mumbai Traffic Police, in a post on X, said, "Avoid the route towards Juhu Circle (D.N. Nagar) due to crane breakdown."

One lane cleared

The Andheri Lokhandwala Oshiwara Citizen's Association (LOCA) also reported a major traffic jam in the area since morning following the crane breakdown.

LOCA said parts of the crane that were obstructing traffic had been moved, allowing one lane at Juhu Circle to be cleared.

The residents' association said it was following up with officials of the Mumbai Metropolitan Region Development Authority (MMRDA) regarding the situation. It added that the remaining portion of the road was expected to be cleared by the end of the day once the crane was repaired and removed.

LOCA said its volunteers were monitoring the situation and coordinating with the authorities to provide updates on traffic movement.

Motorists advised to plan ahead

With repair and clearance work continuing, motorists travelling through Juhu Circle, DN Nagar and nearby parts of Andheri (West) are advised to avoid the affected route where possible and use alternative roads, said an official.
