The Marine Drive police have arrested two political workers in connection with a violent clash that erupted at the entrance of Vidhan Bhavan during the Maharashtra Monsoon Assembly Session on Wednesday evening.

The arrested individuals have been identified as Sarjerao Baban Takle, a supporter of BJP MLC Gopichand Padalkar, and Nitin Hindurao Deshmukh, associated with NCP (SP) MLA Jitendra Awhad.

According to the police, the duo, along with six to seven unidentified men, engaged in a heated verbal altercation laced with obscene language, which soon escalated into a physical brawl inside the highly secured legislative complex. When police officials intervened to control the situation, the accused allegedly assaulted the on-duty officers, prompting immediate legal action.

An FIR was registered on Friday morning under multiple sections of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita, 2023, including unlawful assembly, criminal force against public servants, and assault, police confirmed.

The investigation, led by PSI Dilip Vaval, is ongoing. Police are working to identify and trace the other individuals involved in the scuffle.
