The Indian Meteorological Department (IMD) on Wednesday issued a yellow alert for Mumbai, Thane, Palghar and other parts of Maharashtra.
The weather department predicted that hot and humid conditions would continue during the day and there was a possibility of light rain or thundershowers towards late afternoon or evening.
In its morning weather bulletin, it stated that Mumbai was likely to witness a partly cloudy sky on Wednesday night and early Thursday morning in the city and suburbs. Daytime temperatures are expected to remain high, with the maximum temperature likely to touch 34 degrees Celsius, while the minimum temperature is expected to settle around 27 degrees Celsius.
As per the weather bulletin, Raigad, Ratnagiri, Sindhudurg, Nashik, Pune, Ahilyanagar, Solapur, Parbhani, Beed, Hingoli, Nanded, Latur, Dharashiv, Akola, Bhandara and Bhuldana districts of Maharashtra were under a yellow alert.
It stated, "Thunderstorm accompanied with lightning, moderate rainfall and gusty winds (40-50 kmph) at isolated places was very likely."
The residents have been advised to remain cautious, avoid open areas during thunderstorms, and take necessary precautions against lightning strikes and strong winds.
Meanwhile, Mumbai on Wednesday morning witnessed pre-monsoon showers.
According to rainfall data recorded between 7 am and 8 am on June 3, 2026, the city received light to moderate showers in several areas.
The average rainfall recorded during the one-hour period stood at 0.96 mm in the city, 9.84 mm in the western suburbs, and 1.25 mm in the eastern suburbs.
Among city locations, Kalakilla Municipal School recorded 10 mm of rainfall.
In the eastern suburbs, M West Ward recorded 12 mm of rainfall.
The western suburbs witnessed the highest rainfall activity, with Versova Pumping Station recording 69 mm, followed by Cooper Hospital (52 mm), K East Ward (49 mm), K West Ward (46 mm), Malpa Dongri School (39 mm), Vile Parle Fire Station (33 mm), SWM Santacruz Workshop (30 mm), Nariyalwadi School, Santacruz (26 mm), Chakala Municipal School (17 mm) and BKC Fire Station (16 mm).
Despite the hot and humid weather, Mumbai's air quality remained in the 'satisfactory' category on Wednesday.
According to data from the Central Pollution Control Board's (CPCB) Sameer App, the city's Air Quality Index (AQI) stood at 59, indicating minimal impact on public health.
