This 52-year-old from Ulhasnagar has probably been scared off from sitting on a two-wheeler for a long time. What was a normal Wednesday and a ride home with her daughter turned upside down for her, and the family, after two bike-borne men snatched the woman's purse from her grip and, in the process, made her lose her balance and fall down in the middle of a busy road, injuring her severely.
Mid-road mishap
The police said the complainant, identified as Mehak Khatri, 22, said the incident happened at 8.50 pm near Aman Talkies in Ulhasnagar when she and her mother Jyoti, who was sitting behind, were on their way home.
"CCTV footage of the spot shows two bike-borne men riding up on the left of the two and the pillion rider on the motorcycle making a grab for Jyoti's purse. She tried to hold on to it, but he managed to snatch it from her, in the process made her lose her balance. She was taken to a private hospital, where she is undergoing treatment for injuries on her head, nose, stomach, leg and other parts," said a shaken Deepak, her husband, who added that it was lucky for them that there was no other vehicle coming from behind. The purse had a mobile phone worth Rs 6,000, Rs 2,200 in cash and house keys.
Unclear footage
"We have registered a case against two unknown people. We have got the CCTV footage, but it isn't clear enough to see the bike number. We are investigating and will arrest the accused soon," said V S Dolas, senior inspector, Central police station. A case has been registered under sections 392 (robbery) and 34 (common intention) of the Indian Penal Code.
