Long-distance trains are expected to originate from the upcoming Jogeshwari Junction from January 2027, while the station is also being planned as a modern multimodal transport hub with the possibility of a hotel and shopping mall in its second phase, subject to technical and financial feasibility.
The assurance was given by Western Railway (WR) General Manager Ramashray Pandey during a meeting with Mumbai North West MP Ravindra Waikar to review pending railway projects and commuter issues in the constituency.
Work on the upcoming Jogeshwari Junction underway
The meeting was attended by senior WR officials, including DGM (General) Ujjwal Dev and Secretary Sachin Sharma, along with local public representatives and civic leaders. Pandey also assured the MP that a joint inspection of Andheri and Jogeshwari stations would be scheduled with railway officials once a date is finalised.
The proposed Jogeshwari Junction is being developed to provide seamless connectivity between suburban rail, long-distance trains, Metro and other modes of transport. The project will also include parking facilities for both cars and two-wheelers.
Long-distance trains: The station is expected to start handling outstation trains from January 2027
Harbour line extension: The 7.08-km Goregaon-Borivli Harbour Line extension, estimated to cost R898.29 crore, targeted for completion by March 2029
15-car infrastructure: Platform extension work at Andheri has been completed, enabling 15-car local train operations; work to lengthen platforms on slow corridor between Bandra-Andheri underway
Multimodal hub: Besides railway infrastructure, Jogeshwari station is proposed to be developed as a modern multimodal transit hub integrating rail, Metro and other transport systems; if technically and financially viable, hotel and shopping mall may be added
Andheri station upgrades: Additional lift under construction expected to become operational by October 2026; approval granted for two more escalators, with completion targeted by June 2027
Jogeshwari escalators: Approval granted for installation of one additional escalator at Jogeshwari station, with completion expected by June 2027
Subhash Nagar FOB: Escalator for Subhash Nagar foot overbridge sanctioned; scheduled for completion by June 2027
Passenger amenities: MPLADS (Member of Parliament Local Area Development Scheme) funds offered for construction of toilets, waiting rooms, and breastfeeding rooms at stations in Mumbai North West constituency
RPF manpower shortage: Railway officials informed that while 1894 RPF personnel are required for stations in the area, only 1409 are currently deployed, leaving 485 vacancies
Railway helpline: Officials said the existing 139 railway helpline continues to handle passenger complaints across the country
Ambulance services: Ambulances are currently stationed at Andheri and Goregaon railway stations in coordination with the state government, while a similar facility is being considered for Jogeshwari
