Maharashtra: Palghar hit by 3.5 magnitude earthquake, no damage reported

A 3.5 magnitude earth tremor was recorded in Maharashtra's Palghar district on Tuesday afternoon, making it the second seismic event in the area within three days, reported the PTI.

Officials said there were no reports of injuries or damage to property following the tremor.

According to district officials, the tremor occurred at 1.09 pm, with its epicentre located in Patilpada village.

Vivekanand Kadam, Chief of the District Disaster Management Cell, said emergency teams immediately monitored the situation after the tremor.

"As of now, there are no reports of any damage or casualties from the affected area," he said, according to the PTI.

Officials continue to monitor the situation

Disaster management personnel and revenue officials remain on alert and are closely watching the affected areas as a precaution.

Officials said that they will continue monitoring the region for any further seismic activity.

Second tremor in three days

The latest tremor follows another minor earthquake that struck the district on July 25, when a 3.1 magnitude tremor was recorded in the Ganjad area of Dahanu taluka during a period of heavy rainfall.

The repeated tremors have prompted local authorities to remain vigilant.

The Palghar region, particularly the Dahanu and Talasari tehsils, has experienced low-intensity earthquakes over the years.

Although seismic activity had reduced in recent months, the two tremors recorded within a short period have put the district administration on high alert. Officials said they will continue to monitor the situation and advise residents if further precautions become necessary.

Mild tremors in Nashik

Meanwhile, several mild tremors were felt across parts of Maharashtra's Nashik district between Saturday morning and the early hours of Sunday. Officials said there were no reports of any loss of life or major damage to property, reported the PTI.

However, the Nashik district administration has stepped up monitoring and ordered inspections of vulnerable buildings as a precaution.

According to officials, the tremors were experienced in Surgana, Kalwan, Dindori and Peth talukas, the news agency reported.

The Maharashtra Engineering and Research Institute (MERI), based in Nashik district of Maharashtra, said that the tremors measured around 3.6 in magnitude.
