Meanwhile, Nationalist Congress Party (Sharadchandra Pawar) Member of Parliament (MP) Supriya Sule, on Saturday, said in a post on X that she has appealed to the government to immediately withdraw the police security cover and official vehicles provided for her protection, following PM Modi's appeal on fuel conservation.
In her post, Sule said India is currently facing a severe economic and energy crisis, making it necessary to use fuel and other resources judiciously.
She urged the government to withdraw the police security detail and accompanying vehicles deployed for her protection in the present situation.
She further stated that the situation could be reviewed once the economic and energy crisis is resolved, and security arrangements could be reconsidered later if absolutely necessary.
Amruta Fadnavis, the wife of Maharashtra Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis, on Saturday said in a post on X that she has decided to forgo her visit to the Cannes Film Festival following PM Modi's appeal for fuel conservation and austerity measures.
In her post, Amruta Fadnavis said she had received an invitation to represent Maharashtra, its culture, and the state's handloom heritage at the prestigious international event. She added that a traditional Paithani saree from Yeola, crafted over several months by artisans, had been specially prepared for the occasion.
However, citing PM Modi's call to minimise international travel and adopt austerity measures, she said she had decided to respectfully cancel her visit to Cannes.
Fadnavis described the decision as difficult due to the efforts and artistry invested in the journey, but stated that "the nation always comes first". She also expressed gratitude to the artisans, designers, and supporters associated with the initiative.
