A 64-year-old man was safely rescued after he fell into a drain near a CIDCO bus stop in Thane's Chendani Koliwada area on Sunday morning.
As per the officials, the incident was reported at around 8:55 am on Sunday, August 23, near the CIDCO Bus Stop on Kharton Road, according to the Thane civic authorities.
The man, identified as Chakradhar Sambhaji Meshram, reportedly fell into the drain in front of the bus stop while in an inebriated condition.
Following the incident, personnel from the Thane City Police, the Disaster Management Cell, and the Fire Department rushed to the spot. The Disaster Management Cell deployed one pickup vehicle, while the Fire Department sent an emergency vehicle to assist in the rescue operation.
With the coordinated efforts of the disaster management and fire personnel, Meshram was safely pulled out of the drain and handed over to the Thane Nagar Police for further action.
No serious injuries were reported in the incident.
In a seperate incident, a 35-year-old woman was found dead in Rewale Lake in the Balkum area of Thane district in Maharashtra on Friday, prompting a police investigation into the circumstances surrounding her death, officials said.
The deceased has been identified as Soni Gaikwad, a resident of Kandivali in Mumbai, they said.
According to officials, the woman's body was discovered in Rewale Lake, located in Yashasvi Nagar, Balkum, in Thane West.
Officials said they were alerted to the incident after receiving information about the body, following which emergency services rushed to the spot and retrieved the woman's body from the lake.
The Regional Disaster Management Cell (RDMC) of the Thane Municipal Corporation (TMC) said that the personnel from the Kapurbawdi Police Station and the fire brigade reached the scene along with a fire vehicle and an ambulance hearse.
Firefighters carried out a recovery operation and successfully retrieved the body from the lake.
The body was then handed over to police officials for further legal procedures.
Police have launched an investigation to determine the cause of death and the circumstances that led to the woman being found in the lake.
Officials said further enquiries are being conducted by Kapurbawdi Police, and additional details are awaited, the RDMC said.
