A parked school bus caught fire in Thane district of Maharashtra, the officials said, adding that no injuries were reported in the incident.

The incident took place on Pokhran Road No. 1 in Vartak Nagar in Thane West.

The incident was reported to the fire brigade at around 8.51 pm, officials said.

According to the Regional Disaster Management Cell (RDMC) of the Thane Municipal Corporation (TMC), no one was injured in the incident as the bus was parked and unoccupied when the fire broke out.

The owner of the bus was not immediately known.

Man deployed for tree-pruning exercise dies in Thane

A man cutting branches as part of a tree pruning exercise in Thane amid rains fell down and died on Thursday, a civic official said, as per the PTI.

The incident took place in the afternoon at Balkum Pada number 3, he said.

"The Regional Disaster Management Cell had received a call alerting about a tree fall. When the team reached there along with fire brigade personnel, the man was found dead. He is yet to be identified," the official said, according to the PTI.

It is learnt that he is part of a team of a contractor. It is not not known immediately if safety precautions and equipment were deployed while the tree were being pruned and cut, he added.

Leader of the House in the Thane Municipal Corporation (TMC) Hanumant Jagdale rushed to the civil hospital to get first hand information on the incident, his office informed.
