A car parked inside a shed on the premises of a ground-plus-one-storey building caught fire in Shrinagar, Wagle Estate, Thane (West), late Saturday night, September 26.
The incident was reported at around 11.48 pm near Ayyappa Temple. The vehicle, an MG Hector bearing registration number MH 49 BK 5588, was parked inside a shed at the Parnakuti building when it caught fire.
Fire brigade and Disaster Management Cell personnel reached the spot after receiving information about the incident.
One fire vehicle and one rescue vehicle were deployed by the fire brigade, while the Disaster Management Cell sent one utility vehicle to the site. Personnel from the Maharashtra State Electricity Distribution Company Limited (MSEDCL) and Shrinagar Police Station were also present.
Thane Municipal Corporation corporator Gurmukh Singh was also at the scene as emergency teams worked to contain the fire.
The fire was completely extinguished at around 12.25 am on Sunday. No further spread of the fire was reported, and the situation was brought under control.
In a separate incident, ten persons were rescued from a four-storey building after a fire broke out in an electricity meter cabin and two shops in south Mumbai's congested Bhuleshwar area on September 25, officials said.
The blaze, which erupted around 1.15 pm in Bhairumal House, a ground-plus-four-storey building near Mumbadevi Temple, was confined to electric wiring, electrical installations, a common meter cabin, a wooden staircase and electric cables in the passage on the ground floor, they said.
Smoke had entered some shops on the ground floor, following which fire brigade personnel opened the locked premises using keys, an official said.
While seven persons stranded on the third floor were brought down safely through the staircase by fire brigade personnel, three men on the third floor panicked and moved to a parapet wall on the fourth floor of adjoining ADN building, he said.
These three men were also rescued with the help of an aerial ladder platform, he added.
No one was hurt in the blaze, which was extinguished at 2.45 pm with the help of four fire tenders after BEST personnel disconnected power supply, the official said.
Personnel from the Mumbai Fire Brigade, local police, 108 ambulance services, and municipal ward staff took part in the operation to douse the fire. The cause of the fire was being ascertained, he informed.
