Thane: Fire breaks out in eighth-floor flat, seven residents evacuated from 12-storey building

A fire broke out in a flat on the eighth floor of a 12-storey building in Thane West on Saturday night, September 19, prompting the evacuation of seven residents. No injuries were reported in the incident.

Fire breaks out in eighth-floor flat

The fire was reported at around 9:37 pm at Room No. 802 of Tulip Building, located near Unnati Garden in Devdaya Nagar, Shivai Nagar, Thane West. The flat is owned by Vishal Zunjarrav.

Firefighters reached the spot with three fire vehicles and began operations to contain the blaze. The fire was completely extinguished at around 10:30 pm.

Household items damaged in blaze

The fire gutted several household items inside the flat, including a television, refrigerator, air-conditioning unit, electrical wiring, cupboards, fan and other belongings. The incident caused extensive damage to the flat.

Smoke spread through the building during the fire, leaving seven residents trapped inside the 12-storey structure. Firefighters and emergency personnel safely evacuated all seven residents.

No injuries reported

No one was injured in the incident, officials said.

Senior officials, including Thane Municipal Corporation Deputy Commissioner G. G. Godepure, Deputy Commissioner of Police Prashant Kadam, Disaster Management Officer Tadvi and Chief Fire Officer Zhalke, were present at the site.

Personnel from the fire brigade, Disaster Management Cell and Thane Disaster Response Force were involved in the response. Representatives of Mahanagar Gas and MSEDCL, officers from Vartak Nagar Police Station and a medical team from the Thane Municipal Corporation Health Department also reached the site. An ambulance was stationed at the location as a precaution.

Fire breaks out in slum, 5 houses destroyed

In a separate incident, a fire broke out in a slum in Kalwa (West) here following a gas cylinder explosion, destroying five houses, civic officials said.

No casualties were reported as all the houses were unoccupied at the time of the incident, said Yasin Tadvi, Chief of the Regional Disaster Management Cell of the Thane Municipal Corporation.

The incident occurred in a cluster of makeshift huts located behind Sahayog Society, adjacent to the Kharegaon bridge, he said.

The control room received a call regarding the fire at 9:23 AM, according to Tadvi. The fire was brought under control within an hour. Further probe was on.
