Thane fire brigade rescues man from drowning near Kalwa New Bridge

A 30-year-old man was rescued from drowning in a creek near Kalwa New Bridge in Thane after a swift operation by the Thane Municipal Corporation`s Disaster Management Cell and fire brigade. The rescue team brought him to safety within 15 minutes before handing him over to the police

A 30-year-old man was rescued from drowning in a creek near Kalwa New Bridge in Thane on Tuesday after a swift response by fire brigade personnel and the Thane Municipal Corporation's (TMC) Disaster Management Cell.

According to the Disaster Management Cell, an alert about a person drowning was received at around 11:38 am. The incident occurred near Kalwa New Bridge, opposite Saket Police Chowky on Saket Road in Thane (West).

As per the officials, the man, identified as Naushad Mehroom (30), had reportedly entered the creek but began to drown after misjudging the water depth. Officials at the scene observed that the individual did not appear to be in a sound mental state.

Quick operation by authorities saves a man from drowning

Personnel from TMC's fire brigade team, along with Disaster Management Cell, Thane police and other agencies quickly got to the site, and a rescue operation was immediately launched.

The Disaster Management Cell deployed a pickup vehicle, while the Fire Brigade sent a rescue vehicle and a jeep to the spot.

During the operation, Fire Station Officer Sandeep Kadam and Fire Brigade Driver Ganesh Gavari entered the creek and reached the man. With assistance from other fire brigade personnel and Disaster Management Cell staff, the victim was safely brought out of the water within approximately 15 minutes.

Following the operation, Naushad Mehroom was subsequently handed over to the Thane Nagar Police for further formalities.

Man drowns while swimming in water-filled quarry in Thane

In a separate incident earlier this month, a 20-year-old man drowned in a water-filled quarry in the Diva area in Maharashtra's Thane after misjudging the depth of the water while swimming.

The incident was reported at around 8:33 pm on June 8 near Marathon Tower, alongside the railway tracks in the Betawade area of Diva.

According to officials, the victim, identified as Monu Solanki, had entered the quarry for a swim when he drowned after losing his bearings in the deep water.

Following the alert, personnel from the Diva Police Chowky, the Fire Brigade and the Regional Disaster Management Cell (RDMC) team rushed to the spot. Rescue teams arrived with one rescue vehicle and one fire engine to conduct a search operation.

Body recovered

During the renewed search operation on June 9, rescue teams located and recovered Solanki's body from the quarry.

The body was brought out of the water and handed over to the Daighar Police for further legal procedures.

Police have initiated further proceedings and are investigating the circumstances surrounding the incident.
