A fire broke out in the electrical duct of a 16-storey residential building in Maharashtra's Thane city on Sunday morning, prompting the evacuation of around 70 to 80 residents, reported the PTI.
Officials said that there were no casualties, and the fire was brought under control after a swift response from emergency services.
The blaze was reported at around 9.20 am at Sunrise Glory apartment in the Shilphata area of Thane, the news agency reported.
According to officials, the fire started in the electrical duct between the first and sixth floors of the building.
Thick smoke quickly spread through the stairwell and internal corridors, causing panic among residents.
Emergency teams from the Thane Municipal Corporation's Regional Disaster Management Cell (RDMC), the fire brigade and the power distribution company reached the site soon after the incident, according to the PTI.
A resident was rescued after becoming trapped inside a lift on the sixth floor when the electricity supply was cut as a safety measure.
Officials said all residents were safely evacuated from the building, and no injuries were reported.
Preliminary findings suggest the fire may have been caused by a short circuit in the electrical duct.
As a precaution, the power supply to the building was temporarily disconnected while firefighting and safety operations were carried out.
Officials confirmed that the fire has been completely extinguished and the situation is now under control.
The officials were conducting further investigations to determine the exact cause of the incident.
Meanwhile, in an another incident, a car caught fire on the Thane-Nashik Highway near Kopri Bridge on Friday, causing traffic congestion on the busy stretch near Majiwada in the district, officials said.
The fire was brought under control by the fire brigade, and no injuries were reported in the incident. Efforts were underway to restore the traffic movement, they said.
Firefighters reached the scene soon after receiving information about the blaze and worked to extinguish the fire.
The flames were successfully put out, preventing the fire from spreading to nearby vehicles.
RDMC, the car was completely destroyed after catching fire at Vijay Park near Kasarvadavali Naka in Thane on Friday evening. Officials confirmed that no one was injured in the incident.
The fire was reported at around 7.47 pm. The vehicle was travelling from Vikhroli to Lodha Amara in Kolshet when the blaze broke out, it said.
The driver and his friend noticed the fire in time and safely got out of the car before the flames spread.
Fire brigade personnel, disaster management staff, traffic police and officers from Kopri Police Station rushed to the spot. The blaze was completely extinguished by around 8.20 pm with the help of one fire engine and one rescue vehicle.
The car was extensively damaged in the fire.
After the blaze was brought under control, traffic police began removing the burnt vehicle from the road with the help of a towing vehicle to restore smooth traffic flow.
The cause of the fire was not immediately known.
