A firefighter sustained serious injuries during tree removal operations after a tree fell near a residential building in Thane on Monday morning, officials said.
According to the Thane Municipal Corporation's Regional Disaster Management Cell, an alert regarding a tree fall incident was received at around 6:47 am on July 6, 2026.
The incident took place near Building No. 122, close to Vrindavan Bus Stop at Shrirang Society in Thane West. Officials said the tree had fallen at the location and was leaning against the building.
No residents or people present at the site were injured due to the tree fall.
After receiving the alert, personnel from the fire brigade reached the spot with one fire vehicle. Teams from the Disaster Management Cell arrived with a pickup vehicle, while Tree Authority Department staff were deployed with a lifter vehicle.
Officials started cutting and removing the fallen tree to ensure safety at the location.
During the operation, Ankit Yadav, a 32-year-old rescue fireman, sustained serious injuries to his leg after coming in contact with a cutter machine. He was taken to Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj Hospital in Thane for further treatment, officials said. The tree removal work at the site is underway.
A retaining wall collapsed in Thane's Gokul Nagar area on Monday morning, officials from the Thane Municipal Corporation's Regional Disaster Management Cell (RDMC) said. No injuries were reported in the incident.
According to the RDMC, information about the incident was received at around 6:05 am on July 6, 2026. The wall collapse took place at Yadav Chawl, near Shiv Mandir in Hardas Nagar, Gokul Nagar, Thane West.
Officials said the retaining wall of Golden Park Society collapsed at the location. After receiving the information, RDMC personnel reached the spot with one pickup vehicle. Personnel from the Disaster Management Cell of the Uthalsar Ward Committee also arrived at the site.
As a precautionary measure, the affected area was cordoned off with caution tape to restrict movement and ensure public safety.
The complaint has been forwarded to the concerned department, and officials have been directed to carry out the required action at the earliest. The concerned authorities have also been asked to submit a report on the measures taken regarding the incident to the Disaster Management Cell.
