Thane: Road closures and diversions announced on Ghodbunder Road due to ongoing improvement work

In view of managing traffic congestion in Thane, the City Traffic Department issued a new traffic control notification. The notification has been issued by the authorities to inform about the Ghodbunder Highway.

As per the authorities, the ongoing road improvement work at Gaimukh Ghat along the Thane-Ghodbunder State Highway 84 has caused road closures at various points. The project, aimed at improving the geometry of the ghat section, has led to bottlenecks in the Modbunder area, prompting the authorities to implement alternate routes for heavy vehicles.

The Deputy Commissioner of Police (Traffic), Pankaj Shirsat, while ensuring smooth and safe vehicular movement across the city, notified about some of the key diversions and road closures. The diversions and road closures in the area where improvement work is carried out will make sure that there is less congestion on the road.

Restrictions and diversions:

From Thane/Mumbai to Ghodbunder Road:

• Entry for all heavy vehicles is closed at Y Junction and Kapurbawdi Junction.
• Alternate Route: Heavy vehicles must proceed via Nashik Road, Kharegaon Toll Plaza, Mankoli, and Anjurphata to reach their destinations.
• Commuters can also take a right turn near Kapurbawdi Junction and continue via Kasheli and Anjurphata.

From Mumbra/Kalwa towards Ghodbunder Road:

• Entry is restricted at Kharegaon Toll Naka.
• Alternate Route: Vehicles should travel via Kharegaon Khadi Bridge, Kharegaon Toll Naka, Mankoli, and Anjurphata.

From Nashik towards Ghodbunder Road:

• Entry for heavy vehicles is closed at Mankoli Naka.
• Alternate Route: Vehicles will take a right turn under Mankoli Bridge and proceed via Anjurphata.

From Ghodbunder towards Thane:

• Heavy vehicles coming via Gujarat, Mumbai, and Vasai-Virar on National Highway 48 and entering via Ghodbunder-Thane State Highway 84 will be allowed only between 6:00 AM and 11:00 AM and 5:00 PM and 10:00 PM at Gaimukh Zakat Naka.
• During restricted hours, vehicles from Chinchoti Naka should take the Kaman-Anjurphata-Mankoli-Bhiwandi route.

The Thane Traffic Department and the civic authorities have also appealed to commuters to follow the diversions and cooperate with on-duty traffic personnel. The officials also asserted that, "It is necessary to ensure uninterrupted movement and prevent gridlocks during the ongoing infrastructure development work."
