The Thane district administration has directed schools across the district to take all necessary precautionary measures and prioritise the safety of students and staff following a series of heavy rainfall warnings issued by the Regional Meteorological Department, Mumbai.
According to an official communication issued by Dr. Sandeep Mane, Collector and District Magistrate, Thane, the district is expected to witness intense rainfall over the next several days, with weather alerts remaining in force until July 5.

The weather department has warned of heavy to very heavy rainfall, accompanied by thunderstorms and lightning. Authorities have also cautioned that waterlogging, flooding and traffic disruptions are likely in several parts of the district during this period.
In response to the forecast, the district administration has instructed all school managements in both rural and urban areas to closely monitor local weather conditions and any flood-related developments. Schools have been asked to strictly implement all advisories and safety instructions issued by the District Administration and the District Disaster Management Authority from time to time.

School authorities have been directed to place the safety of students, teachers and non-teaching staff above all other considerations while assessing the situation.
The administration has stated that if prevailing weather conditions pose a threat to the safety of students or staff, school managements should take an immediate decision at the local level on whether to continue classes or temporarily suspend school operations.
Such decisions should be taken after assessing the actual ground situation and in coordination with the concerned education department, local administration, revenue authorities and the district disaster management system.
The administration has also instructed that any decision regarding the continuation or closure of schools must be communicated without delay to the concerned education authorities, parents and the local administration to ensure timely dissemination of information and avoid confusion.
The administration has urged all educational institutions and local authorities to remain vigilant and respond promptly to changing weather conditions as the district prepares for the forecast spell of heavy rainfall.
