Western Railway to dismantle staircase at Bhayandar railway station for upgrade work

Western Railway has begun dismantling the staircase of the second north foot overbridge (FOB) at Platform No. 6 of Bhayandar railway station as part of ongoing station improvement work.

Staircase removal linked to elevated deck project

According to officials, the removal of the staircase is necessary to facilitate the construction of a new elevated deck at the station. The project forms part of broader efforts to upgrade infrastructure and improve passenger movement within the station premises.

The dismantling work has been initiated with immediate effect.

Alternate route for commuters

In light of the change, commuters have been advised to use the skywalk that connects the two north foot overbridges over Platform No 5. Railway authorities said the alternate route has been kept operational to ensure passenger movement is not severely disrupted during the work.

Temporary inconvenience expected

Western Railway acknowledged that the ongoing work may cause inconvenience to passengers using Platform No. 6. Officials stated that the changes are temporary and necessary to complete the infrastructure upgrade.

The railway administration has expressed regret over the inconvenience caused and has urged commuters to cooperate during the construction period.

Western Railway to introduce more 15-coach, AC locals from May 1

The Western Railway on Wednesday announced that it will introduce more 15-coach and Mumbai AC local trains from May 1, 2026.

The expansion of its suburban services across Mumbai is aimed at improving passenger comfort and capacity, officials said.

From May 1, 2026, 17 existing 12-coach non-AC local trains will be upgraded to 15-coach services, while 12 additional air-conditioned (AC) local services will also be introduced, an official statement said.

With the upgrade, the total number of 15-coach suburban trains will increase from 227 to 244.

For the first time, eight 15-coach services will operate on the Virar-Dahanu Road section, offering greater capacity and convenience for commuters travelling on this busy stretch.
