On Monday, Mumbai continued to grapple with the impact of heavy monsoon showers, leading to widespread waterlogging and traffic disruptions across several parts of the city. One of the most affected areas was Andheri, where intense rainfall resulted in severe flooding. The Andheri Subway had to be shut down due to heavy waterlogging, causing inconvenience to motorists and forcing commuters to seek alternate routes. In response to the worsening conditions, the Mumbai Traffic Police issued an advisory warning the public about slow-moving traffic and possible traffic jams, particularly in the Andheri area
The advisory urged motorists to exercise caution, avoid waterlogged stretches, and plan their travel accordingly
Meanwhile, the India Meteorological Department (IMD) issued an orange alert for Mumbai until 1 PM and forecasted moderate to intense spells of rain in isolated locations across the districts of Thane, Raigad, Mumbai, and Ratnagiri over the next 3 to 4 hours
The alert further raised concerns about the possibility of worsening conditions in areas already facing waterlogging and poor drainage
The monsoon’s intensity has highlighted the city’s vulnerability to flooding, particularly in low-lying areas and older infrastructure zones like Andheri
With the weather department predicting continued rainfall, civic authorities are on alert, and efforts are underway to deploy pumps and personnel to manage waterlogged spots
Citizens are advised to stay updated through official channels, avoid non-essential travel, and remain indoors during periods of intense rain
