Maharashtra continued to experience hot and humid weather on Tuesday, with temperatures crossing the 40-degree Celsius mark in several districts, particularly in the Vidarbha region.
According to the India Meteorological Department (IMD), the weather conditions indicate a gradual increase in pre-monsoon activity majorly in central Maharashtra.
The coastal districts remained warm and humid.
Mumbai city recorded a maximum temperature of 35.6 degree Celsius, while the suburbs touched 36.4 degree Celsius.
Alibaug emerged as one of the hottest locations in the Konkan region with a temperature of 38.6 degree Celsius.
Ratnagiri and Panjim recorded maximum temperatures of 35.5 degree Celsius each.
Vidarbha continued to bear the brunt of the heat, with Bramhapuri and Wardha recording the highest maximum temperature in the state at 42 degree Celsius.
Other major cities in Vidarbha also experienced intense heat on Tuesday. Chandrapur recorded a maximum temperature of 41.2 degree Celsius, while Akola touched 41 degree Celsius. Nagpur was close behind at 40.7 degree Celsius, underscoring the continued hot conditions across the region. Gondia and Yavatmal also remained hot keeping much of the region under scorching summer conditions.
Several cities in Madhya Maharashtra also recorded above-normal temperatures.
Malegaon recorded 40.8 degree Celsius, while Jalgaon reported 40.7 degree Celsius. Solapur touched 39.4 degree Celsius, and Ahilyanagar registered 38.8 degree Celsius.
In western Maharashtra, Kolhapur recorded 36.7 degree Celsius, Sangli 38 degree Celsius and Satara 37.9 degree Celsius, all above their normal temperatures for this time of year.
Rainfall activity remained largely subdued across Maharashtra.
Only a few stations reported measurable rainfall. Mahabaleshwar and Dharashiv received light showers while Lohgaon and Nashik reported 28-25 mm rainfall during the observation period.
Most other districts reported no rainfall, indicating that widespread pre-monsoon showers are yet to establish themselves across the state.
Moreover, despite the rain forecast, Pune received no rainfall, leaving its seasonal rainfall at 0 mm against a normal of 6.4 mm. The city is expected to receive rainfall on Wednesday.
Amid the prevailing heat, hill station Mahabaleshwar remained the coolest place in Maharashtra.
The town recorded the state's lowest minimum temperature at 18.2 degree Celsius and a maximum temperature of 27.6 degree Celsius, providing significant relief compared to the scorching conditions elsewhere.
