The Centre has transferred senior officials of the Central Board of Secondary Education (CBSE), including Chairman Rahul Singh and Secretary Himanshu Gupta, amid mounting controversy surrounding the board's On-Screen Marking (OSM) system, reported the IANS.
The government has also constituted a one-member inquiry committee to conduct a detailed investigation into the procurement of OSM services and allegations of irregularities in the process.
The inquiry panel has been tasked with examining the procurement and implementation of the On-Screen Marking system, which has come under scrutiny following claims that tender norms and guidelines may have been relaxed to favour a particular vendor, according to the IANS.
The committee will investigate the allegations and submit its findings to the government.
The controversy has triggered concern among students and parents, who have raised questions over the transparency and accuracy of the evaluation process.
The On-Screen Marking system was introduced by CBSE for the first time during this year's Class 12 board examinations. Under the digital mechanism, examiners assessed scanned copies of answer sheets instead of physical answer books, the news agency reported.
Critics have alleged gaps in the implementation process, prompting demands for greater accountability and review.
As part of the government's action, CBSE Chairman Rahul Singh and Secretary Himanshu Gupta have been moved from their positions, reported the IANS.
The transfers come amid increasing public scrutiny and calls for a thorough examination of the board's evaluation procedures.
Amid the ongoing controversy, CBSE has opened its re-evaluation and verification portal for students seeking a review of their marks.
According to an official notification, the portal became operational on June 2 and will remain open until midnight on June 6.
Eligible students can apply for:
- Verification of discrepancies in scanned answer books
- Re-evaluation of specific answers
- Review of marks awarded during assessment
CBSE stated that only students who have already obtained scanned copies of their evaluated answer books will be eligible to seek verification or re-evaluation through the portal, as per the IANS.
The move is expected to provide students an opportunity to address concerns regarding their assessments while the broader inquiry into the OSM system continues.
