Tamil Nadu: Firecracker unit blast death toll climbs to 25

The death toll in the explosion at a firecracker unit near Kattanarpatti has risen to 25, with many bodies charred beyond recognition. Authorities say identification is being done through personal belongings, while the factory owner remains absconding

With most bodies charred beyond recognition, identification remains difficult, as the toll in the explosion at a fireworks unit near Kattanarpatti rose to 25.

The accident is one of the deadliest industrial disasters in the region. "Bodies were so badly charred that we were able to identify mostly with jewellery victims were wearing," an officer said. The factory owner is absconding.
