To tackle rising temperatures in the capital, Chief Minister Rekha Gupta flagged off 13 Mobile Heat Relief Units today from the Delhi Secretariat. These vans will move across Delhi to help people affected by extreme heat conditions, reported ANI.
The units will provide clean drinking water, ORS packets for dehydration, first aid support, cotton gamchas (towels) and caps for extreme heat and sun protection. Officials said the aim is to deliver quick help directly to citizens in vulnerable areas.
Along with the mobile units, the government also released a Heat Action Plan booklet to increase awareness and improve preparedness against heatwave conditions, as per the news agency.
Authorities have advised residents to:
-Drink plenty of water
-Avoid going out during peak afternoon hours
-Take necessary precautions to prevent heat-related illness
In case of emergencies, citizens can contact the 112 helpline.
Earlier this week, CM Rekha Gupta chaired a high-level meeting at the Delhi Secretariat to review the city's water management system for summer.
She instructed officials to ensure there are no disruptions in supply and said strict action would be taken against negligence. "Our focus is not limited to immediate relief. We are simultaneously working on long-term solutions to free Delhi from recurring drinking water shortages," she said.
The meeting was attended by Water Minister Parvesh Sahib Singh, Chief Secretary Rajiv Verma, and senior officials of the Delhi Jal Board, reported the news agency.
Key decisions included:
-All major water treatment plants operating at full capacity
-Monitoring ammonia levels in raw water with Haryana to ensure uninterrupted functioning of treatment plants
-Identifying shortage-prone areas to target response and bridge supply gaps
-Tightening monitoring systems for better response
Major plants like Sonia Vihar, Chandrawal, Wazirabad, Haiderpur, Dwarka and others have been instructed to run at peak efficiency.
The Delhi government said it is strengthening both immediate relief measures and long-term planning to deal with rising summer temperatures and water demand.
Officials stressed that timely response and coordination will remain the key focus in the coming weeks.
