Senior citizen files a complaint with higher authorities after police inspector refuses to register an FIR against his daughter's in-laws and threatens him with dire consequences

Anil Kamble, a police inspector from RAK Marg police station, Wadala, has been accused of not registering the FIR of a woman, who was kicked out from her in-law's home last month, due to her ‘dark' complexion. After running from pillar to post for a month to file the FIR, Mohammed Meraj Khan, the bride's father, was left with no choice but to approach higher police authorities. On September 11, he complained (a copy of which is withu00a0SUNDAY MiD DAY) to the commissioner of police, additional commissioner of police and deputy commissioner of police against Kamble alleging that the latter would call him several times at the police station on the pretext of filing an FIR and make him wait for long hours. He also allegedly threatened Khan to settle the dispute with his daughter's in-laws or face dire consequences.u00a0/p>

On August 10 this year, MiD DAY had reported how Minhaj Khan was turned away by her in-laws

On August 10 this year, MiD DAY had reported Khan's daughter's plight (‘Husband, in-laws boot out bride as she is ‘dark'). As per Khan's complaint, his daughter, Minhaj, had married Mohammed Farooque Khan, a resident of Shastri Nagar, RAK Marg, Wadala on April 25. On August 2, her in-laws allegedly assaulted and kicked her out as she was dark. They reasoned that if Khan had given them a handsome dowry, then they would have forgiven her.

Khan alleged, "Kamble would call me to the police station and make me wait endlessly. He also threatened me to settle the dispute with my daughter's in-laws else my daughter would facetrouble."

However, when contacted, Kamble said, "In such cases, we always try to counsel the family. I was trying to ensure that both the parties settled the matter amicably. But on Monday I will register an FIR against Minhaj's in-laws."u00a0
