Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Sunday said India's BRICS presidency focused on four key pillars - resilience, innovation, cooperation and sustainability - while seeking to translate the shared vision of member countries into mutually beneficial collaboration.
Speaking during his closing remarks at the 18th BRICS Summit at Bharat Mandapam in New Delhi, Modi said the grouping had brought together countries with diverse continents, cultures and development paths.
"Today, this group is uniting different continents, cultures, and development journeys. This is a testament to the growing strength, attraction, and unwavering confidence of BRICS."
Highlighting the summit theme, 'Resilience, Innovation, Cooperation and Sustainability: Shaping the Future for Inclusive Global Growth', Modi said India had been able to advance the common vision of BRICS with the support of all member states.
"Today, the global tensions are increasing, which is negatively affecting the common man. Pandemics, climate change disasters and supply chain disruptions have shown that in the current interconnected world, no crisis remains confined to a single region. Therefore, we have placed special focus on enhancing resilience within the BRICS group."
He said countries need to identify emerging challenges quickly, remain prepared and respond to crises without delay.
India also announced an early warning system for infectious diseases and new guidelines for disaster management.
"A consensus has been reached on a BRICS Integrated Early Warning System for the prevention of and response to infectious diseases. Additionally, Early Warning Data Integration Guidelines have been formulated for disaster management."
The BRICS Logistics Supply Chain Cooperation Framework, Modi said, would help make global supply chains more dependable and resilient.
On innovation, Modi highlighted the BRICS Incubator Network, which will connect startups and incubators across member countries. India has also proposed a BRICS Startup Innovation Fund to support innovative and scalable solutions.
He said the BRICS Network on Digital Agriculture would create fresh opportunities for farmers by bringing artificial intelligence, geospatial technology and digital public infrastructure closer to their practical requirements.
"The weaponisation of technology and critical minerals can create hurdles for common growth. Therefore, we have emphasised inclusivity in the adoption of technology," he added.
Modi said India had promoted friendship, partnership and cooperation during its BRICS presidency.
"We have made efforts to ensure that BRICS cooperation is not limited to governments alone. We want our entrepreneurs, farmers, researchers, women, youth, and ordinary citizens to become active participants as well," the Prime Minister said.
He said India's approach was aimed at ensuring that BRICS cooperation benefits a broader section of society while strengthening the grouping's role in addressing shared global challenges.
