Four people were killed after a truck allegedly travelling at high speed lost control and crashed into a car on the Yamuna Expressway in Greater Noida, Uttar Pradesh, police said on Monday.

The accident took place on Sunday night, August 30, in the jurisdiction of the Jewar police station. According to officials, the truck was travelling from Noida towards Agra when its driver apparently lost control of the vehicle.

The truck crossed the expressway divider and broke through the railing before entering the carriageway meant for traffic travelling in the opposite direction. It then collided head-on with a car coming from the other side.

Four car occupants critically injured

The collision was severe and left the car badly damaged. All four occupants of the car sustained serious injuries in the crash.

Following the accident, people at the spot alerted the police about the collision. A team from the Jewar police station reached the location and began rescue operations.

The injured were pulled out of the damaged car and rushed to a hospital for treatment. However, doctors later declared all four victims dead while they were undergoing treatment.

Police are currently working to establish the identities of those killed in the accident and gather further information about their backgrounds.

Truck driver detained

Officials said the truck was registered in Rajasthan and was travelling along the Noida-Agra route when the accident occurred.

Preliminary information indicates that excessive speed may have caused the truck driver to lose control. However, police are examining other possible factors and investigating the circumstances that led to the truck crossing the divider and reaching the opposite carriageway.

The truck driver has been taken into custody by the Jewar police. Further legal proceedings are being initiated in connection with the accident.

Investigation underway

Police teams inspected the accident site and collected details as part of the investigation. Officials are also examining the sequence of events leading to the truck losing control.

The collision temporarily disrupted traffic movement on the expressway. Police and other personnel worked at the spot to clear the damaged vehicles and restore movement.

Authorities said traffic on the Yamuna Expressway has since returned to normal.

The incident has once again highlighted the risks posed by vehicles losing control on high-speed expressways, particularly when they cross dividers and enter lanes carrying traffic in the opposite direction. Police said further details would emerge as the investigation progresses.
