The Directorate General of Civil Aviation (DGCA) has launched an investigation after a trainee pilot sustained injuries after being struck by the running propeller of a training aircraft at Kanpur's Chakeri Airport during a night instructional flying session on June 26.
According to the aviation regulator, the incident involved Garg Aviation's Flight Training Organisation (FTO) twin-engine Tecnam P2006T aircraft, bearing registration VT-NBV, which was engaged in night instructional flying.
A flight instructor and a cadet were on board the aircraft at the time of the incident.
The DGCA said that after the aircraft landed, the trainee pilot deboarded while the aircraft's engine was still running. She was struck by the rotating propeller and sustained injuries to her back.
The injured trainee pilot was immediately shifted to a hospital in Kanpur, where she is currently undergoing treatment.
Following the incident, the DGCA removed the flight instructor involved from flying training duties pending the outcome of the investigation.
The regulator has also directed that the aircraft involved in the occurrence will not be operated until the investigation is completed.
"The involved instructor has been off-rostered from the flying training duties pending investigation. Further, DGCA has directed for no utilisation of the aircraft involved in the occurrence pending investigation," the regulator said in a statement.
The DGCA is conducting a detailed investigation to ascertain the circumstances that led to the incident and determine whether standard operating procedures were followed during the training sortie.
The Tecnam P2006T is a twin-engine training aircraft widely used by flying training organisations for pilot instruction, including multi-engine training.
