At least two people were killed and 17 others were injured after a minibus overturned onto a motorcycle in Madhya Pradesh's Khargone district on Monday morning, police said, reported the PTI.
Among the deceased were a woman and her 16-year-old daughter, it said.
The accident took place on the Khandwa-Baroda National Highway near Magariya village, under the jurisdiction of Jaitapur Police Station, around 11 kilometres from the district headquarters.
According to police, the minibus driver lost control of the vehicle while attempting to avoid an oncoming car. The vehicle then overturned onto a motorcycle travelling on the highway, the news agency reported.
The victims, identified as Monu (40) and her daughter Anita (16), were riding pillion on the motorcycle and died at the scene.
The woman's husband, who was driving the two-wheeler, suffered injuries in the crash.
A total of 17 passengers travelling in the minibus were injured and taken to the district hospital for treatment.
According to the PTI, hospital officials said three of the injured are receiving treatment in the Intensive Care Unit (ICU), while the remaining victims are being treated for various injuries.
One of the injured passengers, Vijay Bichhaniya, said the occupants of the minibus were travelling to Piplod in Khandwa district to attend an engagement ceremony, as per the PTI.
He stated that the driver lost control while trying to avoid a vehicle approaching from the opposite direction, causing the minibus to overturn.
Police have sent the bodies of the deceased for post-mortem examination and launched an investigation into the circumstances surrounding the accident.

In an another incident, last month, a woman vegetable vendor and a child were killed after a 74-year-old man allegedly lost control of his Kia Seltos and crashed into a roadside stall in Mumbai's Mulund last month.
The accident took place on ACC Road in Tambe Nagar when the elderly motorist was driving the SUV out of a residential society.
According to police, the vehicle suddenly veered into a vegetable stall outside the society gate, knocking down people standing nearby.
One of the victims, identified as Jyoti Shah, suffered grievous injuries and was rushed to a hospital, where she was declared dead. Another woman who was standing near the stall was carrying a child in her arms when the SUV struck. The child fell during the impact and sustained a severe head injury.
Deputy Commissioner of Police Abhaysingh Deshmukh (Zone VII) said a case has been registered and an investigation is underway.
As per the preliminary investigation, police suspect the driver lost control while taking the vehicle out of the society premises, which led to the incident.
"The accused immediately shifted the injured woman to a hospital after the accident. He was subsequently taken into custody and further legal action is underway," the DCP said.
