Maharashtra: Two killed, one injured as speeding car crashes into Metro station pillar in Pune

Two people were killed and one was seriously injured after their speeding car rammed into the pillar of a Metro station in Maharashtra's Pune city early on Sunday, police said, reported news agency PTI.

The incident took place at around 4.30 am in the Bund Garden area, an official from Koregaon Park police station said.

"A car hit a pillar of the Bund Garden Metro station. As per the primary information, two persons in the car died while the third person sustained serious injuries," senior police inspector Sangita Jadhav said, reported PTI.

"The incident took place at 4.49 am. The CCTV footage of the area clearly shows that the car moving at a very high speed hit the pillar of the Metro station. There were three passengers in the car," another official said, reported PTI.

Prima facie, it seems that the driver lost control of the vehicle, which resulted in the accident. "However, we are investigating the matter," the official said, reported PTI.

Some locals reached the spot after the accident and rushed the three people to a nearby hospital.

Two of them, identified as Hritik Bhandari and Yash Bhandari, were declared dead, while Kushwant Tekwani was critically injured, the official said.

One hurt as container truck rams into road divider in Thane

In another incident, one person was injured after a speeding container truck rammed into a road divider in Maharashtra's Thane city in the early hours of Sunday, an official said, reported PTI.

The accident, which occurred near the Cadbury Bridge exit around 7 am, caused traffic congestion on the busy road, he said.

The container truck was heading to Gujarat from Kalamboli when the driver lost control of the heavy vehicle and rammed it into the road divider, the official said, reported PTI.

The driver, Kamta Pal (50), sustained a head injury and was rushed to the civil hospital, while a hydra machine and a fire department vehicle were deployed to clear the damaged vehicle, he said, reported PTI.

Meanwhile, twenty-nine people were injured when their tempo traveller overturned in Kumarsain, about 81 kilometres from here, in the early hours of Sunday, police said. Barring the driver, all the other injured are Nepalese nationals, police said. The incident occurred around 1 am, when the tempo traveller was on its way to the Nepal border in Rupaidiha in Uttar Pradesh's Bahraich.
