Mumbai recorded relatively moderate temperatures on Tuesday even as large parts of Maharashtra reeled under intense summer heat, with Wardha in the Vidarbha region emerging as the hottest place in the state at 43.5 degrees Celsius.

According to data released by the India Meteorological Department (IMD), dry and clear weather conditions prevailed across Maharashtra, pushing daytime temperatures above the 40-degree mark in several regions, particularly Vidarbha and Madhya Maharashtra.

In Mumbai, temperatures remained comparatively milder, with the city recording a maximum of 34.8 degrees Celsius, while Santacruz logged 34.1 degrees Celsius. Despite the lower readings, humidity levels continued to add to discomfort for residents.

Vidarbha bore the brunt of the heat, with multiple stations recording extreme temperatures. Apart from Wardha's 43.5 degrees Celsius, Amravati registered 42.8 degrees Celsius, Akola 42.5 degrees Celsius, Chandrapur 42.0 degrees Celsius, while Parbhani and Yavatmal both recorded 41.8 degrees Celsius.

In Central Maharashtra, Solapur recorded 41.1 degrees Celsius, Jalgaon 40.4 degrees Celsius, and Lohgaon (Pune airport) 40.1 degrees Celsius. Nashik remained relatively cooler at 36.3 degrees Celsius.

Pune (Shivajinagar) recorded a maximum temperature of 37.2 degrees Celsius, which was 1.3 degrees below normal, while the minimum settled at 22.8 degrees Celsius, 1.2 degrees above normal. No rainfall was recorded in the past 24 hours. IMD has forecast mainly clear skies for Pune on Wednesday, with temperatures likely to hover around 37 degrees Celsius and 23 degrees Celsius.

Mahabaleshwar records lowest minimum at 18 degrees Celsius

Konkan and Goa remained comparatively milder, while the lowest minimum temperature in the state was recorded at Mahabaleshwar at 18 degrees Celsius.

No significant rainfall was reported from any station in the state over the past 24 hours. Pune's seasonal rainfall stands at 92.8 mm against the normal of 18.4 mm, indicating a positive departure of 74.4 mm.

The prevailing dry spell and elevated temperatures, typical of peak summer, have increased discomfort, particularly for senior citizens, children and outdoor workers. Health experts have advised people to stay hydrated, avoid direct sun exposure between noon and 4 pm, and wear light, loose cotton clothing.

With no immediate rainfall forecast over the next few days, heat conditions are expected to persist across most parts of Maharashtra. The IMD has cautioned citizens against heat-related illnesses such as heatstroke and dehydration.
