Nagpur police investigating the alleged sexual assault and torture of a 16-year-old girl have seized eight knives, choppers, other sharp weapons, a laptop and a large quantity of contraceptives from the residence of the accused in Maharashtra's Thane district, an official said on Saturday.
A team from the Hudkeshwar police station conducted a search at the house of 19-year-old Nirmay Madhav Pakhare on Friday. The seized items have been sent for forensic examination as investigators work to gather further evidence in the case.
Pakhare, who is currently in judicial custody, is undergoing treatment at Government Medical College and Hospital (GMCH) in Nagpur. His condition is stable, police said.
Police said Pakhare was admitted to the hospital on Wednesday night after complaining of chest pain during a routine medical examination. His police custody ended on Thursday, following which a court remanded him in judicial custody.
According to the police, the accused allegedly befriended the survivor through Instagram before allegedly taking her to a rented room in Nagpur's Dinghori area.
Investigators allege that the girl was held captive for more than 30 hours, with her limbs tied, and was repeatedly sexually assaulted. Police also said she suffered nearly 20 knife injuries during the alleged attack.
A police team broke open the door of the rented room on the night of August 3 and rescued the girl.
The accused has been booked under the Protection of Children from Sexual Offences (POCSO) Act and sections related to kidnapping.
Police are also examining digital evidence as part of the investigation. The survivor's mobile phone has been unlocked, allowing investigators to examine chats, call records and other data.
Officials said the digital evidence will be used to establish the sequence of events and corroborate other material gathered during the investigation.
Police said Pakhare's family circumstances are also being examined. His parents are separated, and he was living with his elder brother and mother, who is undergoing psychiatric treatment.
The investigation remains underway, with forensic analysis of the seized weapons and electronic devices expected to provide further evidence in the case.
