A passenger travelling on Akasa Air flight from Varanasi to Mumbai was detained on Monday evening after he allegedly attempted to open the aircraft's emergency exit door just before the takeoff, officials said on Tuesday.

The cabin crew quickly responded to this incident and the pilot informed the Air Traffic Control (ATC). The aircraft returned to the apron and all the passengers were deboarded for security checking. Sujit Singh, a resident of Gaura Badshahpur in Jaunpur district was then taken into custody.

Phoolpur Station House Officer (SHO) Praveen Kumar Singh stated that during questioning, the passengers said that he attempted to open the exit door "out of curiosity". After thorough inspection and clearance from the security officials, the flight departed for Mumbai at around 7:45 pm, nearly an hour after the flight's scheduled departure.
