Pune accident case: Court allows police to take custody of teen's father in kidnapping case

A Pune court on Monday allowed the police to take custody of Vishal Agarwal, the father of the 17-year-old involved in Pune accident case, from the Yerwada Central Jail in connection with the case of kidnapping and wrongful confinement of his driver, reported the PTI.

Vishal Agarwal is in judicial custody in a case registered against him and the managers and owners of two pubs under the Juvenile Justice Act and is lodged in the central jail, according to the PTI.

The Pune police had moved an application for a production warrant of the father in the kidnapping and wrongful confinement case.

"The court has allowed the application for the production warrant of the juvenile's father, and he will be taken into custody from the jail," said a police officer from Pune police, the news agency reported on Monday.

Two IT professionals had died after their motorcycle was hit by a speeding Porsche allegedly driven by the minor in the early hours of May 19 in the Kalyani Nagar area of Pune city.

The police claims that the teenager was allegedly drunk at the time of the accident.

The police also registered a case against Vishal Agarwal and his father, Surendra Agarwal, for the 'illegal confinement' of their driver.

The police have said that both the father and grandfather put pressure on the family's driver to take the blame for the accident by offering him money and giving him threats, as per the PTI.

The duo were booked under the Indian Penal Code sections 365 (kidnapping) and 368 (wrongfully concealing or keeping in confinement).

Representatives from Porsche inspect crash-affected car in Pune

Meanwhile, a team of representatives from Porsche reached the Yerwada police station on Monday to conduct a technical inspection of the luxury car involved in the crash that killed two persons, an official said.

The electric luxury sports sedan 'Porsche Taycan' was allegedly driven by a 17-year-old, who the police claim was drunk at the time of the accident, in which two IT professionals had died.

After the accident, the police seized the car and kept it on the police station premises.

"A team of representatives from Porsche is conducting a technical inspection of the vehicle along with officials from the regional transport office," said Sanjiv Bhor, the regional transport officer, according to the PTI.

Maharashtra Transport Commissioner Vivek Bhimanwar had earlier said the car was imported in March by a dealer in Bengaluru, and from there, it was sent to Maharashtra on a temporary registration.

The permanent registration of the vehicle had been pending since March due to the non-payment of Rs 1,758 fees by the owner, transport officials had said, the news agency reported.
