Police conducted an extensive search at a private international school in Pune on Wednesday after the institution received an email claiming that a bomb had been planted on the premises, news agency PTI reported, quoting officers. The entire school was evacuated as a precaution, and no suspicious object has been found so far.
According to an officer from the Pimpri Chinchwad Police Station, the school received the email around midnight on Tuesday. The threat was noticed by the authorities on Wednesday morning, following which the police were alerted.
"A team from Hinjewadi police station and the Bomb Detection and Disposal Squad reached the spot and vacated the school. An extensive search is underway," the officer said, adding that nothing suspicious has been recovered.
The threat email had claimed that a bomb would be detonated on campus, PTI reported. A probe has been initiated to trace the sender.
Two DU colleges receive bomb threats; campuses evacuated, searches underway
Two Delhi University colleges - North Delhi's Ramjas College and Deshbandhu College, located in the southern part of the national capital - received bomb threat emails on Wednesday, prompting evacuations and security checks by police and bomb disposal teams.
"Ramjas college principal informed authorities that the threat mail was received at 1.59 am, following which Delhi Police and the Bomb Disposal Team (BDT) reached the campus and began anti-sabotage checks," Deputy Commissioner of Police (North) Raja Banthia said.
Police cordoned off the area and launched a thorough inspection of all buildings and open spaces inside the campuses, PTI reported. No suspicious object has been found so far, and further verification is underway, the DCP added.
Deshbandhu College students described panic on campus as guards and police cleared classrooms.
"Within minutes, security guards started blowing whistles and pushing everyone outside⦠Practical exams were cancelled, and all students were asked to leave immediately," second-year student Shivang Chandra told ANI.
"We were informed that there was a bomb threat on campus. You can see the fear in the crowd, the atmosphere of panic. The administration and police are trying to control everything," another student, Keshav, stated.
Further verification and investigations are underway to identify the source of the emails.
