In a major late-night operation, the Pune Crime Branch raided an illegal house party called ‘Project X', being held at a bungalow in the Tulapur area on the Alandi-Markal Road under the jurisdiction of Lonikand police station. More than 100 young men and women found at the venue were taken into custody for questioning as part of the investigation.

Narcotics consumed

Acting on specific intelligence inputs that narcotic substances were being consumed at the party, a team comprising nearly 100 police officers and personnel surrounded the bungalow and conducted a surprise raid around midnight on Saturday. Preliminary investigations indicate consumption of narcotic substances during the event. Several suspicious materials used for intoxication were seized from the spot and have been sent for a forensic examination. Some partygoers were reportedly found in an intoxicated condition.

Underage drinking

Police also found that liquor was allegedly being served and sold. Investigators said the organisers had obtained permission from the State Excise Department only from 1 pm to 11.30 pm, but the event continued beyond that. "Several attendees appeared to be below the legal drinking age of 21, and police are verifying their identities," said Tejaswini Satpute, additional commissioner of police, Pune.

Probe launched

Police have launched a detailed probe to identify the organisers, determine the source of the suspected narcotic substances, and ascertain whether a larger drug supply network was linked to the party. Investigators are also tracing the backgrounds and locations of the attendees. Satpute said that liquor worth several lakhs of rupees was found at the premises.

Police recovered alcohol, tobacco products and cannabis during the raid. Authorities are also investigating whether the owner of the bungalow had any role in facilitating the event and whether any organised network was involved in arranging the gathering.

Case registered

A criminal case is in the process of being registered for alleged violations related to excise regulations, permissions, and other applicable laws. The incident is being viewed as significant amid growing concerns over illegal late-night parties and substance abuse in Pune and its surrounding areas. Local villagers have expressed concern over such parties and demanded strict action.
