The proposed Nigdi (Bhakti-Shakti Chowk) to Chakan Metro corridor, a key component of Pune Metro Phase 2, has received a major boost with the submission of the revised Detailed Project Report (DPR) by Maha Metro. The project is expected to significantly strengthen connectivity across Pimpri-Chinchwad and the Chakan industrial belt, one of Maharashtra's largest manufacturing hubs.
The revised DPR was presented at the Maha Metro office in Phugewadi by Maha Metro Managing Director Shravan Hardikar. According to the revised proposal, the 45.295-kilometre-long corridor will be constructed entirely as an elevated metro line at an estimated cost of Rs 12,937.23 crore.
The project proposes 34 metro stations along the route, including Bhakti-Shakti Chowk, Transport Nagar, Ganesh Nagar, Adarsh Nagar, Mukai Chowk, Ravet, Punawale Gaon, Punawale, Tathawade Gaon, Tathawade, Bhumkar Chowk, Bhujbal Chowk, Wakad, Vishal Nagar Corner, Kokane Chowk, Pimple Saudagar, Pimple Gurav, Nashik Phata, Sant Tukaram Nagar, Vallabh Nagar, Gawli Matha Chowk, Century Enka Corner, Landewadi, Bhosari Gaon, Bhosari Sector-1, Godown Chowk, PIECC, Bharat Mata Moshi, Chimbli Phata, Barge Wasti, Kuruli, Alandi Phata, Nanekarwadi, and Chakan.
The proposed metro corridor is expected to provide substantial relief from traffic congestion in rapidly growing areas such as Wakad, Nashik Phata, Bhosari, Moshi, and Chakan, while offering a fast, safe, and reliable mode of transport for lakhs of employees and workers commuting to the Chakan MIDC industrial area.
Officials said the project would also encourage a shift from private vehicles to public transport, helping reduce traffic congestion, fuel consumption, and air pollution. In addition, the metro corridor is expected to accelerate infrastructure development and economic growth in residential, commercial, and industrial areas along the route.
With the revised DPR now submitted, stakeholders expressed hope that the proposal would receive the required administrative approvals at the earliest, enabling construction of the ambitious metro corridor to begin without delay.
The meeting was attended by MLA Mahesh Landge, MLA Uma Khapre, Pimpri-Chinchwad Mayor Ravi Landge, Deputy Mayor Sharmila Babar, Standing Committee Chairman Abhishek Barne, Party Leader Prashant Shitole, Additional Municipal Commissioner Tripti Sandbhor, UMTC consultant Rajneesh Podwal, as well as senior officials and other dignitaries.
