Three members of a family, including a nine-year-old girl, were killed after a milk tanker rammed into their motorcycle from behind in this district on early Tuesday, police said.
The accident occurred between 5.30 am and 6 am in Koppa police station limits under Maddur taluk of Mandya district, they said.
The family resided in Kanakapura taluk in Bengaluru South district. Kavya, along with her husband Muthu and two daughters, was returning on the motorcycle after attending the Gauri Ganesha festival at her parents' home when the accident occurred, police said.
According to police, the motorcycle was hit by the milk tanker from behind, resulting in the deaths of Muthu and his nine-year-old daughter Kirthana on the spot.
Kavya succumbed to injuries while undergoing treatment at a hospital. Their 12-year-old daughter survived without any major injuries, a senior police officer said.
A case has been registered in this regard, police said, adding that further investigation is underway.
