The United States Embassy in India shared remarks by US President Donald Trump on Friday, praising Prime Minister Narendra Modi for his effective leadership. President Trump said, "Our amazing relationship with India will be even stronger going forward. Prime Minister Modi and I are two people that get things done, something that cannot be said for most."
The embassy's post gained attention due to its timing amid the ongoing conflict in West Asia, highlighting the significance of the India-US partnership.
Earlier this week, PM Modi and President Trump spoke over the phone, with the Iran conflict being a key topic. Following the conversation, PM Modi reiterated India's support for peace and stability in the region.
"Received a call from President Trump and had a useful exchange of views on the situation in West Asia. India supports de-escalation and restoration of peace at the earliest. Ensuring that the Strait of Hormuz remains open, secure and accessible is essential for the whole world. We agreed to stay in touch regarding efforts towards peace and stability," PM Modi posted on X.
Both leaders emphasised maintaining peace and stability, and the safety of global shipping lanes, particularly the Strait of Hormuz, which is vital for international trade.
The call comes amid heightened tensions in West Asia following strikes by the US and Israel on Iran on February 28, which killed Iran's Supreme Leader Ayatollah Ali Khamenei. In retaliation, Iran launched drone and missile attacks on US and Israeli targets in the region.
These developments have affected global energy markets, with oil prices remaining highly sensitive to the situation.
President Trump and PM Modi have cultivated a high-profile relationship over the years, participating in public events, strategic dialogues, and mutual praise. Their cooperation spans trade, defence, and broader strategic partnerships, reflecting a results-oriented and multifaceted bilateral relationship.
