Four people were killed and more than two dozen others injured after a passenger bus overturned in Uttar Pradesh's Baghpat district early Monday after hitting a road divider, police said.

The bus was carrying passengers travelling from Rajasthan to Budaun when the accident occurred in the Khekra police station area at around 12.30 am, according to police.

Bus carrying 32 passengers overturns after hitting divider

Police said the vehicle overturned after hitting a road divider while travelling through the area. The bus was carrying 32 people at the time of the accident.

After receiving information about the crash, four Police Response Vehicles (PRVs) of Dial 112, ambulance services and personnel from the Khekra police station reached the spot and began rescue and relief operations, Superintendent of Police Suraj Rai said.

The rescue teams worked to evacuate passengers from the overturned vehicle and arrange medical assistance for those injured in the crash.

Injured taken to hospitals in Baghpat and Khekra

The injured passengers were taken to Community Health Centres in Khekra and Baghpat, as well as the district hospital in Baghpat, police said.

Those who suffered serious injuries were referred to higher medical centres for specialised treatment. The authorities are continuing to assess the condition of the injured passengers, officials said.

The exact number of people injured was not immediately available, with police describing the figure as more than two dozen.

Four passengers killed in accident

Police said four people had died in the accident so far. Authorities were working to establish the identities of the deceased and inform their families.

Police personnel were also contacting the relatives of the deceased and injured passengers and providing assistance, officials said.

The circumstances that led to the bus hitting the divider and overturning are being examined by the police. Further details about the cause of the accident were not immediately available.

Police continue efforts to contact families

Authorities said efforts were underway to gather information about the passengers and establish contact with their family members.

Police teams were also coordinating with hospitals where the injured were admitted to obtain further details about their condition and identities.

The accident comes amid continued concerns over road safety and the risks faced by passengers travelling on highways and major roads, particularly when vehicles are involved in high-speed crashes.

Baghpat Police issue contact number for families

The police have appealed to family members seeking information about the deceased or injured passengers to contact the Baghpat Police.

Officials said relatives requiring information or assistance can contact the police on 9454417383.
