Woman cannot be untouchable for three days: SC judge on menstrual stigma

A woman cannot be treated as "untouchable" for three days in a month and then cease to be considered touchable on the fourth day, Supreme Court judge BV Nagarathna remarked on Tuesday.

The remark came while a nine-judge bench was hearing on petitions related to discrimination against women at religious places, including Sabarimala temple of Keralam.

Meanwhile, the Centre has backed the restriction on the entry of women of menstruating age and told the Supreme Court that the issue falls squarely within the domain of religious faith.
