Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister (CM) N Chandrababu Naidu met Union Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman on Friday in New Delhi, where he presented a proposal requesting Central assistance for the Polavaram–Banakacherla Link Project. The Polavaram-Banakacherla Link Project includes the Bollapalle reservoir, lift irrigation systems, and tunnels through the Nallamala hills
The CM also emphasised that the project has the potential to benefit millions in drought-prone areas and could serve as a model for river-linking initiatives across India
The project, which is a major infrastructure initiative proposed by the Andhra Pradesh government, is likely to cost around Rs 80,112 crore
Naidu also met Union Defence Minister Rajnath Singh during his Delhi visit
Naidu held discussions on the project with Union Jal Shakti Minister CR Paatil, too, and submitted a proposal on it. The project aims at improving water resource management and advancing infrastructure development in the state
The Andhra CM met with various other Union ministers and asked them for the Centre’s support for the water transfer project
In a post on X, Chandrababu Naidu shared that he had a productive meeting with Union Ministers in Delhi. He discussed the Polavaram–Banakacherla Link Project, highlighting its goal of bringing Godavari waters to drought-affected regions of Andhra Pradesh through a collaborative effort between the Centre and the state
