The nationwide initiative was part of a larger plantation campaign led by Union Home Minister Amit Shah, who participated in a tree-planting programme with personnel of the Border Security Force (BSF) in Tripura. As part of the campaign, CISF carried out simultaneous plantation drives across all its 13 operational sectors, including the Airport Security Command, nuclear installation units, industrial zones and training centres spread from Guwahati to Chennai and from Navi Mumbai to New Delhi
The force highlighted its strong environmental record, noting that it planted 44,08,341 saplings between 2020 and 2025 against a cumulative target of 35.70 lakh
According to CISF, it exceeded its annual plantation target every year during the six-year period. In 2020 alone, the force planted 8,95,786 saplings against a target of 5 lakh
Beyond plantation drives, CISF has also developed 289 nurseries and 253 memorial gardens dedicated to personnel who lost their lives in the line of duty
The force said its sustained plantation campaigns, dedicated nurseries, and memorial gardens demonstrate that the responsibility of a security organisation extends beyond safeguarding installations and infrastructure to protecting and nurturing the environment.
