The rains are here in earnest, with the promise of much more to come. The city has got relief from a bummer of a summer, where heatstroke assailed so many and the air seemed to literally hiss and crackle from the fierce temperatures. There have been a number of rain related incidents in the past two days itself. The huge tragedy on Tuesday, when a tree fell on a bus and an 11 year-old's life is a case in point.

We have reports of balcony crashes, a pothole death where a man on a scooter and his mother riding pillion suffered a pothole accident in which unfortunately, the woman perished.

There have been tree falls across the city, and people wading in flooded waters trying to reach different destinations.

Get rain ready as individuals and people and negotiate this season wisely. Keep phones charged during these times and keep them dry. Keep emergency numbers ready. Let at least one person, a family member or friend be aware of where you are - at the workplace, or commuting for work calls, anything at all.

Keep kids away from beach waters, even a little dip in the shallow must not be allowed by parents. Currents can be deceptive. The water's strength may be camouflaged by a calm exterior.

Walk carefully on our roads and pavements, too. Cross roads with extreme caution, applicable at all times but especially in the monsoon. Keep a torchlight, a mobile torch is insufficient
with you.

All those who need it, keep medication on hand. Authorities are responsible for infra, we are responsible for ourselves.
