It has been challenging times for the BEST transport service, but once again the big, trusty red has promised to step up its service for Mumbaikars.

The HSC (Std XII) examinations are scheduled from February 10 to March 11, while the SSC (Std X) exams will be held from February 20 to March 18. With a large number of students expected to travel to examination centres across Mumbai during this period, BEST has directed its administration to ensure hassle-free transportation.

According to the directive, depot managers, deputy depot managers, and assistant depot managers will arrange for extra bus services if needed. BEST officials and inspectors will be posted at key locations to expedite traffic clearance and prevent delays, the administration stated. Bus staff have been asked to assist students and provide them with the necessary support during their journey. Additionally, students will be allowed to board buses through the front door throughout the examination period to ensure easier access.

While intent is laudable, we often see that the communication chain is broken. This should be avoided. Students must keep enough time to reach the centre, factoring in delays. Start early from home and don't be overconfident about reaching the venue on time. It is simply wiser to arrive at exam venues substantially before time to avoid panic, breaking rules, and taking shortcuts.

Avoid hanging out of trains, travelling on footboards or running behind buses for a toehold for your trip to the examination hall.

A big component of academic performance is mental health. One needs a calm, cool, and composed mindset, which is a significant contributor to scoring well.
