This is a good idea. Across the country, we see infrastructure awaiting inauguration because the ‘correct’ politician cannot find the time to inaugurate it.

The Border Security Force (BSF) has proposed to name a post in the Samba sector as ‘Sindoor' and two others in the name of its personnel killed during the cross-border shelling by Pakistan on May 10. A BSF IG of the Jammu Frontier, Shashank Anand, said three jawans, including an Indian Army Naik, were killed in fighting during the cross-border shelling said a news agency report.

On May 10, BSF Sub-Inspector Mohammad Imtiyaz, Constable Deepak Kumar and Indian Army Naik Sunil Kumar were killed. It is proposed to name two of our posts after the personnel we have lost, and one post in the Samba sector to be named as ‘Sindoor', IG Shashank Anand said.

This is a good idea. Across the country, we see infrastructure awaiting inauguration because the ‘correct' politician cannot find the time to inaugurate it.

We have been witness to time being frittered away as political parties are engaged in fruitless fighting over the names of certain amenities/facilities. Even if the facility is a badly needed children's garden in this city, where people and children need outdoor recreation, or something as necessary as a bridge there are huge disagreements from different parties over what to name it.

This edit space in the past has suggested that we get over these ego trips about names and let places take the names of important Indians. It is also worthwhile to name facilities after our defence heroes, those men who live in the shadows and do not hanker after these ego massages.

Naming posts in sectors after those who have made the ultimate sacrifice is apt and quite phenomenal. We must also look at naming other infra after our defence personnel. This will create unity, inspire youngsters and make more people aware about the huge sacrifices made amid conflict.
