A connector-bridge linking two roads in Andheri West behind Citi Mall has been a shambles for two years. Our report quoted a number of locals who said the old connector, which is 30-m long and used by vehicles and pedestrians, was demolished for repairs two years ago. It has been two years of near status quo and status woe for all those who have to access the area, as it is a mix of commercial and residential buildings.

Our recent report also described how a visit to the area and crossing over using a makeshift connector was dangerous. The makeshift connector with metal sheets, pipes and cables was a test of balance. A slip or slight misstep meant a fall into a ditch, which may result in broken limbs, or a lesser injury, but injury nevertheless.

Senior citizens may find it very tough, while children who are distracted or running across for any reason may also have an accident. There is a school a little away from this place.

The lane was also used as a garbage dump, with a strong stench emanating, and people covering their noses as they crossed over.

It is shocking that repairs have come to a stand still. It is also unacceptable that a newspaper report was needed to call out the corporator who has assured that work will be expedited.

This is one of the upscale areas of the western suburbs; it is unfathomable the kind of mess it is in. We need intervention pronto and restarting work.

We are just one month and a few days away from the monsoon, where crossing over will be hazardous. Move on a quality connection now.
