'Syria won't be another Iraq'

President Barack Obama yesterday sought to assure war-weary Americans that the intervention in Syria would not be like Iraq and Afghanistan

"What we're talking about is not an open-ended intervention. This would not be another Iraq or Afghanistan," Obama said making a case for limited and targeted military action against the Assad regime.

"I know that the American people are weary after a decade of war. That's why we're not putting our troops in the middle of somebody else's war," he said. Asserting that the alleged use of sarin gas by Syrian President Bashar al-Assad's regime was a threat to US national security, as well as an affront to international law, Obama said failing to respond to such actions poses a ‘serious threat to our national security."
