The 23-year-old who scored a brace, said he would not be disappointed if his goal on the stroke of half time is taken away from him, after it emerged Sergio Ramos may have had the final touch on his finish over the head of visitors' goalkeeper Tono.

"It was a great game in the end," Benzema said after the match. "I do not know if the second goal was mine or Sergio's (Ramos), but I do not care because it was important to win. We will continue fighting until the end."

Cristiano Ronaldo and Angel Di Maria were also on target for Jose Mourinho's team. Real Madrid have now provisionally moved 13 points clear of Barcelona at the Liga summit.
